dear shit-hot ‘indie’ bands:

please stop big-upping yourself by saying, ‘we sold out a show at [insert name of 'hip' rock club in new york city/los angeles here]!’ the secret behind those capacity crowds — namely, that nyc/la are filled to the brim with a) industry types and b) stardust-seeking bloggers, neither of whom have to ever pay to get into anything (this is becoming more true for members of the latter group in particular, who seem to be absolutely thrilled to participate in the whole mutual back-scratching party). if you actually sold out the show, by all means say so. but if you merely filled the room with people who were just disembarking at yet another stop on the never-ending Hyped Music gravy train, then, by all means, kindly s.t.f.u.

I cannot read a lot of music blogs for that very reason. Congrats on EMP!
