an afternoon sitting across from a city.

i have spent the entire day in pajamas. i’m nursing a sore throat, one that i think might be partially derived from the super-sweet frosting on burgers and cupcakes’ fresh-blueberry offering. last night was the second night this week that i sampled cupcakes, and i’m sad to say that while the company on both nights was stupendous, the cupcake i tried last night couldn’t hold a single birthday candle to wednesday’s offerings. yes, it’s hard for one small sweet to compete against seven bakeries’ heavy hitters — particularly when one of those establishments supplied me with my slice of ‘i’m 31′ cake — but come on, if you’re going to have fresh blueberries in a cupcake, and make them said treat’s calling card, smothering any hint of their tartness with a glop of overly sugared buttercream sort of defeats the entire purpose. and my advanced age has resulted in my throat tightening and my tongue developing blisters any time i try and consume something that has a sugar:other ingredients ratio higher than 10:1.
(i should note that the french fries at this place were, in fact, divine — fresh-cut and just greasy enough, their salt slipping onto my fingers each time i picked one out of the too-generous bucket (i only managed to eat half my portion). i’d go back for just those and a lemonade while waiting for an off-peak train — the view may be of the lincoln tunnel, but the light quality as the sun’s dipping below the horizon is quite striking.)

I agree with you, the French fries are a devine pleasure.
Spending a day in pajamas must be very extraordinary.
