christmas in october.

i’ve been totally freaking crabby this week–as far as the less irritating items, we have the abrupt end to the mets’ season, the increased chill in the air, the lack of seasonally appropriate skirts in my closet, the unforeseen subway reroutings–and astoria’s business improvement district, perhaps sensing a way to capitalize on my mood getting even worse, decided to put up the christmas decorations on steinway street this weekend. seriously, i stopped in my tracks when i saw it. it’s not that i hate the holidays, it’s just that i can’t take the rushing of time–and if the loudspeakers on steinway start blaring ‘jingle bell rock’ before halloween even happens, i’m going to be extra on edge. (also, see the ’seaman’s furniture’ sign in the back? that building has not housed seaman’s for months–what’s inside is now a discount-clothing-thrown-all-over emporium specializing in spandex-enhanced jeans and ugly pleather boots. last week i tried finding a skirt there, and since i wasn’t interested in the “my ass hanging out from beneath a scrap of denim” look, i was shit out of luck.)

today I was shopping at target, and for whatever reason in the area I was shopping, they were playing this horrendous loop of like 10 seconds each of “jingle bell rock,” the chipmunks christmas song, whatever song it is that starts “it’s the most wonderful time of the year,” and some other obnoxious christmas song. I literally wanted to kill in the most excrutiating way possible whoever was responsible for it.
