people (still) complain a lot about rockism in music writing, but it’s even worse in non-music journalism–assumptions about “correct” music are pretty set in stone, and in the sports-writing world, the list of approved music is pretty dire. don’t believe me? just look at the lede of this “championship sunday is for the real fanspolemic, which i found while trying to figure out the afc championship game’s halftime entertainment:

Divas never take the stage at halftime of the NFC championship game.

apparently, this dude is a) unfamiliar with the antics of petey wentz (nsfw) b) under the impression that prince is a “diva” and c) a total fucking sexist, because he spends the first five paragraphs making passing references to breasts committing turnovers (waht) and “beer-ad bimbos.” ah, sports “journalism.” i knew there was a reason that i didn’t miss you too much.

(oh, and the afc championship game’s halftime show? darryl “have you forgotten (who i am)?” worley. what, was toby keith holding out for ford-level cash?)
