got my amazon.co.uk order today. two things that were weird about it:
1, it was shipped from amazon.de, and the airbill and the packing slip were all in german;
2, the box was actually opened, like obviously burst open and then put back together again, and the protective plastic that surrounded the items was punctured, but all the items were there. thanks, i guess?
among my purchases was the new scarlett thomas book, the end of mr. why; its pages are rimmed in black, which makes me feel like i’m gazing at a box that i need to open straightaway. and i can’t stop listening to the sophie ellis-bextor album, which was another item in today’s shipment. lately it’s been either really gorgeous over-the-top produced smart-girl pop (sophie, siobhan, sissy wish) or completely lo-fi k/krs-like stuff (slant 6 especially, and then there’s violet vector too). i guess helium falls somewhere in the middle there, sort of like how they always did.

We saw Sophie Ellis-Bextor perform a couple of songs when we went to a taping of _The Dame Edna Show_ while we were in London back in the spring. The number of her own that she sang was just so-so, but she and Dame Edna really cut loose when they sang “Fame” together later in the show.
