the most beautiful song i ever heard.

yesterday i went to a wedding where the music setup consisted of a dj and a percussionist; the percussionist had congas, bongos, a cowbell, and some windchimes, along with a snare. every so often he’d bust out the windchimes for maximum balladry, but really his setup had the overall effect of turning every song into its freestyle megamix clone. as you might imagine, some of the results were more successful than others. (does ’sexyback’ really need a conga added to it? no.) however, there was a three-song set of actual freestyle and oh my, was it bliss–especially since most of the dance floor knew all the words to tka’s ‘maria’ (even if those words are a little sad in the context of celebrating a new marriage). my only real complaint is that the dj segued from that set into ‘yeah!,’ and i would have much preferred ‘the mexican,’ but you can’t have it all.
